A month ago, HTC has launched a social networking phone Facebook Phone Status, the lower right corner there is an obvious Facebook shortcut button. Today, a person close to AT&T revealed, because of poor sales, the operator intended to abandon to sell this phone.
In addition, earlier the phone was not called called the Status but ChaCha. Soon a question and answer site called ChaCha took HTC to court accusing them infringed the trademark of ChaCha, then HTC re-named the phone “Status”. But it is clear that this symbolized “identity and status” phone has not been much welcomed, there are multiple sources have confirmed its sales far below expectations.
The following is a brief introduction of the mobile phone:
HTC Status, based on Android, is the first mobile phone integrated Facebook button. Through Facebook button, users can more easily send status and photos to Facebook. The Facebook button integrated on HTC Status can provide different functions according to different operations. For example, if user want to upload photographs to Facebook, then click the blue button, it can automatically enter the built-in Facebook content upload application. When a new chat message or a wall message arrives, the Facebook button will be lit, make a reminder to the user. Click the button, the user can browse all unviewed contents and interactive messages.
In addition, another point worth noting is for this advertised social phone, Facebook itself did not show a lot of interest. At Status’ conference site, Zuckerberg did not appear, just called and recorded a short video. Second, in Facebook headquarter, did not see people in using this phone.
Update: AT&T has now agreed to go on record with a comment, saying “The HTC Status is a great product and our plans for it to be part of our portfolio haven’t changed.”
