Freescale is announcing two new ARM Cortex-A9 processors at CES 2012, the i.MX 6SoloLite and the i.MX 6DualLite. The 1GHz single-core “Solo” is designed for dedicated e-readers and improves power consumption and performance over the 800MHz i.MX 508 found inside the Kindle Touch. The “Dual” is a 1GHz dual-core A9 that could show up in entry-level tablets, IPTVs, IP phones, medical monitoring equipment, and home energy management systems. The latter chips have integrated 2D / 3D processing and 1080p video decoding, and they support HDMI and PCIe with a 64-bit low-voltage DDR3 memory interface. Both chips have built-in controllers for E Ink displays and will begin shipping in the second half of 2012.
